Why we built this

Most name sites treat names as trivia: a meaning, a rank, a list. But for millions of families, choosing a name means honoring two heritages at once, making sure grandparents on both sides can pronounce it, and checking that it's written beautifully in more than one script. We built NameQuest because that family — the bilingual, multicultural, in-between family — deserved a tool made for them first, not as an afterthought.

Where do your name meanings come from?

Traditional etymology sources, reviewed continuously. Meanings can vary by region and tradition; when they do, we show the most common readings.

When does the mobile app launch?

How do affiliate links work?

Items on our Keepsake Shelf may earn NameQuest a commission when you buy through them. It never changes the price you pay, and we only feature products we'd give to friends.

NameQuest ("we", "us") helps families discover baby names. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to namequest.app and, when they launch, our iOS and Android apps.

1. What we collect

Things you give us: names you save to your finds list, tool inputs (like a sibling's name), account details if you create an account (email, display name), messages you send us, and newsletter sign-ups.
Things collected automatically: device and browser type, pages visited, and general (city-level) location inferred from IP, used for analytics and to keep the service secure.
Payment information: Premium subscriptions are processed by our payment provider; we never see or store your full card number.

2. How we use it

To run the product: saving your finds, syncing lists with a partner, remembering preferences.
To improve NameQuest: understanding which tools and names families love.
To communicate: service emails, and the newsletter if you opted in (unsubscribe anytime).
To show advertising on the free plan (see below). Premium is ad-free.

3. Advertising & affiliates

Free accounts see clearly labeled ads and sponsored placements. Ad partners may use cookies or similar technologies to measure performance; you can control cookies in your browser settings. Affiliate links on the Keepsake Shelf are labeled and may earn us a commission at no cost to you. We do not sell your saved names or personal information to advertisers.

4. Sharing

We share data only with service providers who help us operate (hosting, analytics, payments, email), when required by law, or with your direction (for example, sharing your list with a partner). We never sell personal information.

5. Your choices & rights

Access, correct, or delete your data by contacting [email protected].
Unsubscribe from marketing email with one click.
Depending on where you live (including under Canada's PIPEDA, the EU's GDPR, and California's CCPA), you may have additional rights such as data portability and the right to object to certain processing.

6. Children

NameQuest is made for expecting parents, not for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the applicable age in your region). Saved baby names are your data, about a name — not an identity record of a child.

7. Security & retention

We use industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest, and keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law.

8. Changes & contact

1. Welcome

These terms govern your use of NameQuest (the website and, when available, our mobile apps). By using NameQuest you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

2. The service

NameQuest provides name discovery tools, meanings, origins, and related content for personal, non-commercial use. Name meanings and origins are provided for cultural and informational purposes; they draw on traditional etymology, which can vary by region, and are provided "as is" without warranty of accuracy.

3. Accounts & your saved names

You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. You may not use NameQuest to harass others, scrape our database at scale, or attempt to disrupt the service.

4. Premium subscriptions

Premium costs $9.99 USD/month or $49.99 USD/year and renews automatically until cancelled.
All prices are in US dollars. You can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the period you've paid for.
You can update your payment card, download invoices, switch plans, or cancel at any time from "Manage billing" in your account.
Deleting your account cancels any active subscription immediately, so you won't be charged again. Payments already made are not automatically refunded — contact us at [email protected] if something went wrong.
You can cancel anytime from your account settings; access continues to the end of the billing period. Refunds are handled per the policies of the platform you purchased through (web, App Store, or Google Play).

5. Ads, sponsorships & affiliate links

The free tier includes clearly labeled advertising and sponsored content. Some links are affiliate links, meaning NameQuest may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Sponsored and affiliate content is always labeled.

6. Intellectual property

The NameQuest name, logo, design, and database compilation are ours. Names themselves belong to the world — you're free to name your baby anything you discover here (that's the point!). You may not copy or redistribute our database or content at scale without permission.

7. Disclaimers & liability

NameQuest is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Naming decisions are yours — we provide inspiration, not legal naming advice (some jurisdictions regulate given names; check local rules if unsure).

8. Changes, termination & governing law

We may update these terms and will post the new version here with a revised date. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Questions? Contact us or email [email protected].
